CHTC Corporate Operations and Automotive Expansion

CHTC Corporate Operations and Automotive Expansion

CHTC operates as a diversified industrial conglomerate with significant holdings across textile machinery and the automotive sector. By leveraging a network of subsidiaries and strategic investments, the company has established a broad footprint in both domestic Chinese markets and international territories.

Corporate Structure and Key Holdings

CHTC serves as the parent company for several major industrial entities. Its primary control is exerted through significant ownership stakes in specialized machinery and textile firms. As of the reported data, CHTC holds the following majority positions:

Beyond these primary subsidiaries, CHTC maintains strategic minority interests. As of December 31, 2015, the company was the second-largest shareholder in both CHTC Helon (SZSE: 000677), with a 10.19% stake, and Huaxun Fangzhou (SZSE: 000687), with an 18.30% stake.

CHTC Auto: The Vehicle Production Division

Known alternatively as Hengtian, CHTC Auto is the dedicated vehicle production arm of CHTC's Heavy Industry Group. The company officially entered the automotive sector in 2008 following a reorganization of Kama's diesel engine and commercial vehicle operations.

Expansion and Acquisitions (2010–2012)

Between 2010 and 2012, CHTC aggressively expanded its commercial vehicle capabilities. In 2010, the subsidiary Hengtian Heavy Industry established Zhengzhou Hongda Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. and acquired the bus manufacturer Bonluck. This was followed in March 2011 by the incorporation of Hebei Lida Special Vehicle Co., Ltd.

Simultaneously, Jingwei Textile Machinery incorporated Hubei Xinchufeng Automobile Co., Ltd. in June 2010, which was later partially reincorporated as Hengtian (CHTC) Automobile Co., Ltd. In May 2011, Nanchang Kama Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. was reincorporated as Hengtian (CHTC) Power Co., Ltd.

The portfolio grew further in November 2011 with the acquisition of Dadi Auto, a manufacturer of trucks and pick-ups, which became Hengtian (CHTC) Dadi Automobile Co., Ltd. on October 16, 2012.

Product Launches and Strategic Shifts

Utilizing technology from Dadi, CHTC launched its first branded pick-ups in 2012: the Tuteng T1 and T2. In 2013, the company introduced the Tuteng T3, positioned as an upmarket version of the T2.

In June 2017, CHTC attempted to become the largest shareholder of Hualing Xingma by acquiring a 15.24% stake from the Xingma Group, with ownership shifting from the Maanshan Municipal People's Government to the SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission). While Hualing Xingma intended to acquire Hubei Xinchufeng as part of the deal, complexities halted that specific acquisition in August 2017. By October 2017, CHTC cancelled the entire agreement due to insufficient investment safeguards.

International Presence

CHTC has extended its industrial reach beyond China through targeted international acquisitions. From early 2012 until late 2020, the company owned GINAF, a Dutch truck manufacturer. Additionally, CHTC acquired the assets of the Slovenian bus manufacturer TAM in 2013 through a joint venture.
