On July 11, the two governments conducted a final exchange of empty railcars—returning Turkish cars from Akhuryan and Armenian cars from Doğukapı. No trains have crossed this border since.

Today, the Gyumri-Tbilisi section remains part of the Yerevan-Tbilisi mainline, serving as Armenia's only functioning rail link to the outside world. While the Kars-Gyumri line once facilitated direct travel from Yerevan to Moscow, current geopolitical tensions and the severance of Georgia's rail link with Russia mean that Armenian trains can now only reach Georgia.
